If you're looking to create an ethically sourced diamond engagement ring or diamond eternity ring, Ocean Diamonds are a wonderful option. Here's why we love them.

WHAT IS AN OCEAN DIAMOND?

An ocean diamond is a type of diamond that is formed in part by its journey along the ocean bed over millions of years.

HOW ARE THEY FORMED?

Forming beneath the earth's crust, as naturally mined diamonds do, they rise up to the ocean bed and travel through turbulent oceans. Only the strongest and purest diamonds can survive this journey, creating naturally exceptional quality diamonds.

WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?

The diamonds become nestled in sea beds off the West Coast of South Africa, where skilled local divers retrieve them. Their extensive experience ensures they know exactly where to look and cause no more disturbance to the seabed than would occur naturally under wavey conditions.

WHAT MAKES THEM SPECIAL?

From the incredible journey the rough diamonds take, to the artistry involved in their transformation to a final hand-cut diamond, each ocean diamond is truly unique. They’re also the most ethical choice for sourcing newly mined diamonds, which is one of the main reasons our clients choose them.

WHY ARE THEY AN ETHICAL CHOICE?

Traceability throughout the entire journey is of the upmost importance, and a certificate of provenance, pictured below, accompanies each diamond to verify its coastal origin and ethical sourcing.

Ocean Diamonds also refers to the company responsible for sourcing and cutting diamonds. When we partnered with them in 2020, we were really excited because their ethical standpoint strongly aligns with our values, and this is something that still stands rings true today. Aiming to keep as many processes as possible in the local economy, every Ocean Diamond is cut by the hands of skilled artisans in South Africa. You can learn more about them here.

HOW CAN I USE ONE IN MY RING?

We can source the perfect Ocean Diamond for your bespoke or made-to-order piece. They are most commonly available in Round Brilliant Cuts and are GIA Certified, meaning they’re graded to the same high standards as our other white diamonds. Custom shapes can also be cut to order.
