A whirlwind romance, Mick proposed to Bianca after 9 months and they married just 24 hours later in St Tropez. Choosing to marry in France, they flew their guests out to join them. Even at short notice, this didn’t stop their wedding from being a star-studded affair, and the guest list included rock’n’roll royalty like Keith Richards and family, pictured below, and Kenney Jones, drummer for the Who.
Their traditional Roman Catholic ceremony was in a beautiful 7th c. Chapel. Despite trying to keep their wedding private, the inevitable mob of paparazzi and fans came to the chapel to see the couple. Infamous pictures of their wedding like the one below are of Mick and Bianca trying to get through the crowd.
For us, this wedding was all about the outfits. Effortlessly chic as always, Bianca wore a tailored two-piece by YSL. The tuxedo jacket, sans shirt, with a bias-cut skirt and a broad-brimmed hat, were a nod to marital tradition but reinvented in the way that Bianca was know for doing so well. In the words of Vogue -
"What appeared then as a brave wardrobe choice for the times went on to define a new, more liberated era for an entire generation of women, and bridal style became all the more fun because of it. "
Despite the tragic and public collapse of their romance, the marriage between the purveyor of Dad-rock and the 70’s Queen of Cool remains one of our favourite celebrity nuptials of all time.
